About the Expert
Joseph has worked at Voysis since early 2021 and is now Sales Director. He works with Voysis sales representatives to introduce customers and prospects to new and evolving AI-powered telephony solutions.
In this interview, Joseph answers two practical questions businesses often ask before changing phone systems: Can we keep our existing numbers, and can the new platform work with the tools our teams already use? He explains Voysis’ parallel setup and testing process, typical timelines for number porting and integrations, and how CRM features can improve visibility and save time. He also addresses AI reception, reliability, data hosting, after-hours use and bilingual options.
Why Voysis Added AI to Business Telephony
Businesses now receive questions through several channels. A customer may call, send an email or use SMS. Joseph explains that this demand led Voysis to expand its telephony offering with AI-powered solutions designed to respond to these communication needs.
The types of businesses asking about AI phone systems vary, but Joseph often sees strong interest from car dealerships, medical clinics and auto parts dealers. They share a common challenge: high inbound call volume.
An AI receptionist can help manage that volume by directing calls. AI can also support call review. Joseph says recorded calls can be summarized to identify key moments that may require closer listening, including customer complaints or customer-experience feedback.
Can a Business Keep Its Current Phone Numbers?
Yes. Joseph states that businesses switching to Voysis can keep all their phone numbers. This matters because existing numbers are already part of a company’s customer relationships and daily operations. Instead of asking the team to begin with a new number, Voysis prepares the new environment before moving the existing numbers into the Voysis account.
How Number Porting Works with Voysis One
The average porting process takes 5 to 10 business days. Before the request is submitted, Voysis configures the complete system in parallel with the company’s previous phone system. The team then tests the configuration using call forwarding. When customers call the existing number, the call is forwarded in the background to a temporary number. This allows the new configuration to be tested before the number itself moves.
The customer’s team reviews the setup and gives the green light once everything is working correctly. Voysis then submits the port request to the previous provider. According to Joseph, the numbers are generally moved into the Voysis account 5 to 10 business days later.
How Voysis Works to Avoid Service Interruption
The parallel setup is designed to avoid downtime during the transition. Because the previous solution remains available while Voysis One is configured and tested, the team has a fallback if a problem occurs. Joseph notes that technology is not perfect. If downtime occurs, calls can be reverted to the previous solution so the business does not miss incoming calls.
Connecting Telephony with Contact Centre and CRM Tools
Voysis specializes strongly in contact centre integrations. Joseph links this focus to omnichannel communication: many customers now use text messages and email as well as phone calls. CRM integration is another major area of demand. Joseph explains that business phone systems now do much more than route calls. They can help teams follow the customer journey by connecting conversations with customer information and employee workflows. The features he highlights include click-to-dial, contact pop-ups and automatic call logging directly in the customer’s CRM. These functions reduce manual steps and keep call activity connected with the customer record.
Does the Existing Phone System Need to Be Replaced?
Yes. The existing infrastructure must be replaced with the Voysis One platform. Joseph explains that Voysis’ AI solutions and integrations are built for its own platform and can only be optimized within that solution. This means Voysis AI is not presented as an extra layer added to an existing PBX. The move to AI telephony includes a move to Voysis One.
How Long Does an Integration Take?
The timeline depends on complexity. If the integration already exists, Joseph considers it a small project and estimates about one week. If Voysis must create a new integration, the project includes defining the scope, developing the connection and implementing the solution. Joseph estimates 4 to 6 weeks for that process.
What Callers Can Expect from the AI
Joseph says callers can currently tell when they are speaking with AI. Voysis is continuing research and development to make the voice sound as human-like as possible. Customers who do not want to speak with AI can use touch-tone options. For example, pressing 0 can transfer the caller to a receptionist. Joseph says the feedback Voysis receives is that its customers’ callers are comfortable with the AI because it directs calls efficiently.
The AI’s role can be adapted. As a receptionist, it can take a message or transfer a call. Through an agent workflow, it can also work with a CRM, schedule appointments and follow up with customers.
Data Hosting, Uptime and Outage Response
According to Joseph, data is hosted in Cisco’s infrastructure in Canada. He also states that Voysis and Cisco guarantee 99.99% uptime.
If an outage occurs, the customer receives an email alert with information about the incident and confirmation that the team is working on it. In the meantime, calls can be forwarded to a cell phone or handled through the Webex or Microsoft Teams application. After the incident, the customer receives a report explaining the cause and the steps taken to correct it.
